Closure of Southeast Hospital
On July 13 DHH Secretary Greenstein announced that the State will close Southeast Louisiana Hospital. The State's decision remains firm despite the objections of Parish Government, the St. Tammany legislative delegation, and numerous health care providers in the region. The 348-bed psychiatric hospital will begin phasing out operations on October 1, with layoffs for more than 300 area employees.
In response to this shocking announcement, we are planning a luncheon, set for August 22, to include a panel of community leaders to address how this will affect our area psychiatric care, law enforcement, hospitals, etc. More details to follow soon.
